I cannot update as well...tried the method suggested but times out and fails?...not really sure I understand exactly the procedure suggested so probably got it wrong

Sorry for the trouble, i needed to pass over https.
Maybe the simpliest solution is to change the url in admin/update.php line 8 to https :

$url = 'https://123solar.org/metern/latest_version.php';

Then go over /admin/update.php.
Tell me how it's doing ?

It seemed to do something then I got a not completed error: rm -rf /var/www/metern.20180904..the update didn't complete as expected..and then some dir info. possibly a permission problem

I went an turned on in admin page and discovered update had been completed so just something not removed??

Fully checked after copying 123 style to metern all working perfectly.. Just did not delete the generated dir metern.20180904...
