Newbie here

Post by lavaqueen » Wed Apr 29, 2015 3:31 pm

Hi

I have inverters with RS485 port, but its neither ABB nor SMA. It's a small brand from Asia.

Can it still work?

Thanks!

123solar is a GUI, you'll need first a communication application for your inverter..

Hi jeanmarc,

Please forgive me for been a total newbie.

I was reading through 485 solar get by Roland Breedveld and then discovered your site. :D

Here is his website, https://code.google.com/p/485solar-get/

Since I know zero about coding, i was guessing all I need is a retrofit 485 add-on bus, a web-server with linux running, 485 solar get code from his website and 123 solar?

And what's the relation b/w 485 solar get and 123 solar?

Thanks

Hi,
Well RS485 is more of a norm which define physical standards. It isn't a procotol (software layer) or the way devices talk.
485solar is for SMA inverters, it isn't applicable for each kind of RS485 device. In other words: you need an application that speaks the language of your inverter.
